Michel Design Works has crafted premium soaps and body care in the USA since 1987, while Compagnie de Provence has produced traditional Savon de Marseille in the heart of Provence, France since 1990. Both brands share a commitment to quality ingredients, artisan craftsmanship, and sophisticated fragrance.

Prices range from $10.46 for Michel Design Works foaming soaps on sale to $58 for Compagnie de Provence gift sets. This collection features body butters, body scrubs, foaming soaps, and traditional French liquid Marseille soaps in timeless fragrances including Lavender Rosemary, Honey Almond, White Tea, and Black Tea.

Michel Design Works: American Artisan Since 1987

Bruce and Deborah Michel launched Michel Design Works in 1987 with beautiful paper gifts, journals, and stationery. From the beginning, they believed that the quality and beauty of their packaging was just as important as the gift itself. That philosophy now extends to an acclaimed line of bath and body products, candles, and home fragrances.

Lavender Rosemary Collection

The Lavender Rosemary line combines calming lavender with invigorating rosemary for an herbal, spa-like experience. Products include Foaming Hand Soap ($10.46 sale), Foaming Body Wash ($13.26 sale), Body Butter ($16.06 sale), and Body Scrub ($15.36 sale). Due to high demand, most Lavender Rosemary items are currently sold out.

Honey Almond Collection

The Honey Almond line offers a warm, comforting fragrance with natural sweetness. The Body Butter ($22.95) nourishes even the driest skin with shea butter and aloe vera. The Foaming Hand Soap ($14.95) is currently sold out.

Premium Ingredients

Michel Design Works products are enriched with shea butter, aloe vera, and botanical extracts for gentle, nourishing care. All products are cruelty-free and made with eco-conscious practices. The brand is now part of the Stonewall Kitchen family of artisan brands.

Compagnie de Provence: French Marseille Soap Tradition

Since 1990, Compagnie de Provence has forged close links with local producers in Provence to find high-quality ingredients that capture the essence of the region. Their Liquid Marseille Soaps have won Allure's Best of Beauty Award, recognized for quality that honors centuries of French soap-making tradition.

The Terra Collection

The Terra Savon line features liquid Marseille soap crafted in a cauldron following authentic tradition. Made from vegetable coconut oil, naturally glycerined, and free of coloring agents, animal fats, or synthetic surfactants. The lacquered glass pump bottles combine timeless design with contemporary elegance.

White Tea ($28-$58)

A soothing fragrance with delicate notes of white flowers over a sweet musk scent, created in Grasse, the perfume capital of France. Available in 10 fl. oz. ($28), 16.7 fl. oz. ($33), and a Soap and Hand Cream gift set ($58).

Black Tea ($28-$33)

A sophisticated, warm fragrance with depth and complexity. The tea-inspired scent brings refined elegance to your daily routine. Available in 10 fl. oz. ($28) and 16.7 fl. oz. ($33).

Minimum 95% Natural Origin

Compagnie de Provence formulas contain a minimum of 95% ingredients of natural origin. The soaps are enriched with sweet almond oil, olive oil, and grape seed oil from France. All products are biodegradable and safely absorbed by the earth, reflecting the brand's respect for the Provence environment.

The Art of Savon de Marseille

Savon de Marseille is one of the world's oldest and most noble formulas for soap-making. The traditional method dates back centuries in the Provence region of southern France, where soap masters developed techniques that produced exceptionally pure, gentle soap.

Traditional Cauldron Method

Authentic Marseille soap is made by saponifying vegetable oils in large cauldrons using age-old skills. The process takes several days and requires master soap makers who understand the precise temperatures and timing needed. Compagnie de Provence has kept these skills alive since 1990, producing liquid versions of the traditional cube soap.

Why Marseille Soap Is Special

The purity of ingredients and traditional fabrication process renders Marseille soap remarkably exceptional. The formula is hypoallergenic due to its natural composition. Unlike commercial soaps that strip skin of natural oils, Marseille soap cleanses gently while maintaining skin's moisture balance.

Versatile Applications

Traditional Marseille soap can be used for hands, body, and even household cleaning. The gentle formula works for all skin types, including sensitive skin. The liquid versions from Compagnie de Provence bring this versatility to modern pump bottles designed for bathroom and kitchen use.

Body Butters and Body Care

Beyond hand soaps, this collection includes rich body care products that provide deep moisturization and nourishment.

Michel Design Works Body Butter

The Honey Almond Body Butter ($22.95) features a silky, luxurious texture enriched with shea butter and botanical ingredients. The formula absorbs without greasy residue, making it perfect for daily use. Apply after bathing to lock in moisture while skin is still slightly damp.

Michel Design Works Body Scrub

The Lavender Rosemary Body Scrub ($15.36 sale, currently sold out) gently exfoliates while the herbal fragrance creates a spa experience at home. Body scrubs remove dead skin cells, allowing moisturizers to absorb more effectively.

Compagnie de Provence Hand Cream

The White Tea Hand Cream, included in the Soap and Hand Cream set ($58), provides lasting hydration without greasy after-feel. The formula contains shea butter, olive oil from Provence, and panthenol for moisturizing and softening properties. The matching soap and cream create a coordinated fragrance experience.

Luxury Soap and Body Care FAQs

What makes foaming soap different from liquid soap?

Foaming soaps dispense as aerated foam rather than liquid, requiring less product per use and rinsing more easily. Michel Design Works foaming soaps are enriched with aloe vera and shea butter for moisturizing benefits. The light foam feels luxurious while providing effective cleansing without stripping skin.

Is Compagnie de Provence soap safe for sensitive skin?

Yes, Compagnie de Provence Liquid Marseille Soap contains 95% or more ingredients of natural origin and is free of coloring agents, animal fats, parabens, and synthetic surfactants. The traditional formula is hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive and delicate skin types.

How long does body butter last compared to lotion?

Body butters are thicker and more concentrated than lotions, providing longer-lasting moisture. A small amount of Michel Design Works Body Butter covers a large area and continues moisturizing for hours. The shea butter base creates a protective barrier that prevents moisture loss throughout the day.

Can I use Marseille soap for my face?

Compagnie de Provence Liquid Marseille Soap is gentle enough for facial use due to its natural, glycerined formula. However, those with specific skin concerns may prefer dedicated facial cleansers. The soap works well for hands and body, and can also be used for household cleaning.

Why are Michel Design Works products sold out?

Michel Design Works products are handcrafted in small batches with premium ingredients, limiting availability. The Lavender Rosemary collection proved exceptionally popular during the holiday sale. The Honey Almond Body Butter remains in stock. Sign up for notifications or contact us about restocking dates.
