Maintaining Solid Mahogany & Teak Outdoor Furniture

Mahogany outdoor furniture and teak: wash annually with a teak/hardwood cleaner and a medium-bristle brush. After cleaning, apply a UV-protective teak sealer or exterior-rated wood oil. Teak naturally develops a silver-gray patina in 6–18 months of outdoor exposure — this is optional weathering and does not compromise structural integrity. If you prefer to maintain the original honey-brown color, apply teak sealer before the weathering begins.

Is Uttermost outdoor furniture safe to leave outdoors year-round?
Yes for cast aluminum, GRC, and synthetic wicker — these materials are inherently impervious to moisture, temperature cycling, UV radiation, and salt air. For mahogany outdoor furniture and teak, we recommend furniture covers during harsh winter months (below 20°F sustained) to preserve finish longevity, though the wood itself will not structurally fail.

What is the difference between all-weather wicker and natural rattan?
Natural rattan absorbs moisture, which causes splitting, peeling, mold growth, and structural failure within 1–3 seasons of outdoor use. Uttermost's synthetic all-weather wicker uses 100% HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) resin strands that are immune to moisture absorption, UV yellowing, chlorine exposure, and temperature cycling. HDPE wicker is indistinguishable from natural rattan visually but vastly superior for outdoor longevity.

Will Uttermost concrete furniture crack in freezing temperatures?
Our glass-reinforced concrete (GRC) tabletops are specifically engineered to resist freeze-thaw cracking. The embedded glass fibers triple the concrete's tensile strength and dramatically increase its resistance to thermal expansion stresses. In regions with sustained temperatures below -20°F or extreme freeze-thaw frequency, we recommend applying a concrete sealer annually and using furniture covers as an added precaution.

Are the cushions waterproof?
Solution-dyed acrylic cushion fabric is highly water-resistant — rain beads and rolls off without absorption — but is not fully waterproof (rated at 2"–3" of pooling rain). For extended heavy rain exposure, tilting or bringing cushions inside is recommended. The fabric is mold and mildew resistant. Store cushions in a ventilated outdoor storage box when the furniture is not in use for extended periods.

Can indoor/outdoor tables be used in direct sun?
Yes — all materials marked "indoor/outdoor" are tested for full outdoor exposure including direct sun, rain, and salt air. The indoor/outdoor designation simply indicates these pieces also coordinate beautifully in sunrooms, covered patios, or indoor dining rooms — it does not imply any outdoor placement restriction.

How do I protect cast aluminum patio furniture?
Cast aluminum requires almost no maintenance beyond twice-yearly automotive wax application and prompt chip repair. Lift tables and chairs when moving rather than dragging — dragging can scratch the powder-coat finish on rough concrete or stone surfaces. Clean with mild soap and water after stormy weather to remove debris and chemical residue from leaves.
